Out of the 1.24 billion people in India, 645 million require vision correction. Only 150 million of them get their vision corrected, leaving about 495 million behind. Moreover, 80% of the blindness could be prevented or cured.
Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust launched the Vision 10000 project this in May 2018 in order to tackle problems of eye care. The objective of the project is to provide free prescribed glasses to 10000 people in the rural and urban pockets of Maharashtra. Besides, Ratna Nidhi is also facilitating free cataract surgeries for the underprivileged.
The Vision 10000 project is in collaboration with Essilor Vision Foundation, Titan Eye Plus, Vision Foundation of India, Lotus Eye Hospital and Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital.
Thus far, Ratna Nidhi has screened 664 patients and distributed 406 fine-quality prescribed spectacles for free.
